SOC-certified Messidor 50/60 seed garlic
Messidor seed garlic quality
This Messidor seed garlic in size grade 50/60 is SOC certified and untreated. It can therefore be planted under organic farming management, with a lot inspected for both varietal quality and plant health.
The variety is regenerated and free from OYDV virus. Starting from healthy plant material limits the loss of vigour and yield caused by this virus and gives a more uniform crop. The regular size grade of the bulbs encourages even emergence and makes the field easier to monitor throughout the cycle.

Messidor garlic bulb, cloves and flavour
Messidor garlic forms very white bulbs made up of 10 to 15 large cloves. This whiteness and the size of the cloves are selling points: the bulbs look good on the stall and in parcels, and the cloves are easy to sort when splitting.
The variety does not produce a flower stalk. The grower therefore does not need to cut stalks during the crop, which saves time across a whole field. All the plant’s energy goes into forming and swelling the bulb.
Messidor garlic earliness, dormancy and yield
Messidor is an early variety, harvested from June. This earliness frees the field fairly early in summer and quickly provides bulbs for drying and sale.
Its dormancy is medium, between very fast-starting varieties and those with a long rest period. Vigorous, the variety offers high yield and excellent productivity. Its well-developed root system gives it good resistance to harsh climates, which secures the crop through winter.

Planting Messidor garlic
Messidor garlic is planted from mid-September to December, ideally in October. Planting at this time gives the cloves time to root before the hard frosts, an important condition for good regrowth in spring.
The variety suits light, well-drained soils, which warm up quickly and limit the risk of clove rot in winter. Prepare loose, fine soil, avoid areas where water stands, then plant the cloves tip up, 3 to 5 cm deep, in drained soil.

Messidor garlic harvest and outlets
Messidor garlic is harvested from June to July, when the foliage yellows and partly dries out. Lift the bulbs in dry weather, then leave them to dry away from direct sun to avoid scorching and preserve the whiteness of the skin.
The variety is intended for semi-dry and dry sales. The grower can thus sell part of the harvest shortly after lifting, as semi-dry garlic, and keep the rest for dry sales later in the season.

Storing Messidor garlic
Messidor garlic stores well, in line with its use as semi-dry and dry garlic. This makes it possible to spread sales over several months after harvest and to better plan marketing.
To preserve this, wait until the bulbs are completely dry before storage. Then place them in a dry, ventilated place away from light, in crates or nets, without direct contact with the ground. Check the lot regularly and remove damaged bulbs.
