Germidour garlic bulb, cloves and flavour
Germidour garlic forms round bulbs with purple skin, containing 10 to 15 cloves with ivory-white flesh. Its aromas are strong, with a slight hint of spiciness.
The number of cloves per bulb must be taken into account when estimating the quantity of seed needed: the more cloves a bulb has, the higher the number of cloves per kilo of seed. For planting, favour the outer cloves, usually the largest, which give the most vigorous plants.
Germidour garlic earliness, dormancy and yield
Germidour is a very early variety. Planted in autumn, it is harvested from May, which frees the field early in the season and lets you offer some of the first garlic of the year.
Its low dormancy means the cloves quickly come out of their rest period: after planting, emergence is quick and the plant establishes before winter. Its high productivity, combined with this earliness, gives large volumes from the start of the season.
Planting Germidour garlic
Germidour garlic is planted from September to November, ideally in October. It likes fairly clayey soils, provided they are well prepared and drained: garlic dislikes excess water, which encourages clove rot.
Work the soil a few weeks before planting to obtain fine, loose soil. Plant the cloves tip up, 3 to 5 cm deep, with 30 to 40 cm between rows and 8 to 12 cm within the row. Avoid waterlogged soils and choose a field without garlic, onion or shallot in previous years.

Germidour garlic harvest and outlets
A very early variety, Germidour garlic is harvested from May to June. The right time is when the foliage starts to yellow and fall over, while the bulbs are well formed.
Lift the bulbs in dry weather, then leave them to dry for a few days away from direct sun and rain. Germidour garlic is mainly intended for fresh sales: its earliness makes it possible to offer new-season garlic early in the season.

Storing Germidour garlic
Germidour garlic stores well. To preserve this, the bulbs must be completely dry before storage: incomplete drying encourages mould.
Then store the bulbs in a dry, ventilated place, away from light and frost, without direct contact with the ground. Keeping them in bunches, nets or slatted crates ensures good air circulation. Sort the stock regularly to remove damaged bulbs.
